The Negative Perception of Aging in Young Adults: A Systematic Review

Abstract
This article analyzes the negative perception of aging among young adults in Mexico and Spain, highlighting the impact of stereotypes and external factors such as social class and gender roles on the image and treatment of older adults. A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA method, analyzing articles published between 2018 and 2023. The findings indicate that young people associate old age with weakness and vulnerability, influenced by stereotypes and occupational activity. These perceptions affect older adults' self-esteem and can reinforce their social exclusion. To counter this view, it is recommended to implement educational strategies and awareness programs aimed at young people, collaborating with educational and community institutions to foster a more positive perception of aging. Furthermore, promoting preventive health programs can improve older adults' quality of life, reducing discrimination and strengthening their social integration.
