Abstract

Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences (TIM / MI) is widely known in educational practice, yet its scientific validity has been rigorously challenged in psychometrics, neuroscience and philosophy of mind. This article presents a systematic review of 78 works (2000–2022) critically examining the theory across three axes: (1) lack of empirical independence among the supposed intelligences; (2) absence of standardized, reliable measurement instruments and low predictive validity; and (3) weak neurological foundations in light of current brain science. We conclude that MI lacks sufficient empirical support to stand as a scientific theory of intelligence and persists more as an educational myth than a rigorous framework. We then propose an alternative approach consistent with contemporary neuropsychological science.
